Il paraplegico Johnson è un fulmine e regala la pole position TCR alla JDC-Miller Motorsport a Daytona
Con un giro stratosferico, il pilota statunitense ha piazzato la sua Audi davanti a quella #10 della eEuroparts.com ROWE Racing e alla Honda della Atlanta Speedwrks, mentre l'Alfa Romeo di Popow-Papadopulos è in seconda fila. Le Hyundai soffrono più del previsto.

Grazie ad una grande prestazione, Michael Johnson ha regalato alla JDC-Miller Motorsports la pole position in Classe TCR per il primo round dell'IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge che si svolge a Daytona.
Il pilota statunitense, che è paraplegico da quando aveva 12 anni, ha piazzato la sua Audi RS 3 LMS davanti a tutti con il crono di 1'58"433 in una Qualifica praticamente dominata.
“Non mi aspettavo di essere così veloce, specialmente per come erano andate inizialmente le prove libere - ha dichiarato Johnson - Pensavo di poter girare in 59 basso, invece la macchina era molto più forte. Cole, il mio ingegnere, ha fatto un lavoro fenomenale per farmi avere il set-up migliore ed essere tranquillo. Ho solo dovuto mettere insieme il tutto e ho fatto due giri consecutivi in 58" che mi hanno sorpreso. Ora dovrò completare l'opera in gara".
Johnson, che condivide la vettura con i sudafricani Stephen Simpson e Mikey Taylor, ha rifilato oltre 8 decimi alla Audi RS 3 LMS della eEuroparts.com-ROWE Racing condotta da Lee Carpentier e Kieron O’Rourke, mentre in seconda fila troviamo la Honda Civic Type R della Atlanta Speedwerks con sopra Brian Henderson e Todd Lamb.
Buon quarto posto per il team KMW Motorsport-TMR Engineering con l'Alfa Romeo Giulietta dei debuttanti Alex Popow-Alexandre Papadopulos, mentre i loro compagni di squadra Roy Block e Tim Lewis Jr hanno sofferto di più con l'altra auto della Romeo Ferraris e si ritrovano al 12° posto.
La migliore delle nuove Hyundai Veloster N è quella di Mark Wilkins e Michael Lewis, ottava; la seconda macchina coreana della Bryan Herta Autosport chiude solamente 13a con sopra Mason Filippi ed Harry Gottsacker.
