Johnson centra la vittoria numero 77 e scavalca Dale Earnhardt!
Jimmie Johnson trionfa a Fontana e sorpassa nel numero di vittorie complessive la leggenda Dale Earnhard senior. Al secondo posto il sempre competitivo Kevin Harvick, mentre il podio è stato completato da Denny Hamlin.

Nelle ultime ore la Nascar Sprint Cup ha vissuto un momento storico. Jimmie Johnson ha infatti centrato una prestigiosa vittoria a Fontana, la numero 77 della carriera, che gli ha permesso di superare nella classifica dei piloti più vincenti di sempre della categoria una leggenda del calibro di Dale Earnhard, fermo a 76.
Negli ultimi passaggi della corsa Johnson si trovava alle spalle di Denny Hamlin e Kevin Harvick, ma grazie a una guida aggressiva ed efficace è riuscito a sorpassarli e a tagliare per primo il traguardo, nonostante Harvick avesse dominato gran parte della cosa.
Harvick aveva la possibilità di centrare il secondo successo consecutivo, ma Johnson è stato implacabile Kevin non ha potuto fare altro che chiudere al secondo posto, mentre il podio è stato completato da Denny Hamlin.
Joey Logano si è dovuto accontentare della prima posizione ai piedi del podio. Non è stato certo un fine settimana semplice per il team Penske, perché Brad Keselowski non è andato oltre al nono posto finale. La Top Five è stata completata da Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (Roush Fenway Racing).
Chase Elliott non è riuscito a ripetere le grandi prestazioni del compagno di squadra Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports), ma il sesto posto non è certo un risultato disprezzabile. Carl Edwards ha chiuso settimo, davanti a AJ Allmendinger. La Top Ten è stata chiusa da Jamie McMurray, primo pilota al traguardo del team Chip Ganassi Racing.
