Mir, un campione del mondo MotoGP atipico

Il neo-campione del mondo di MotoGP si è imposto con una sola vittoria, senza alcuna pole position e con il minor numero di punti con il sistema attuale.

Joan Mir ha certificato il suo primo titolo MotoGP, aggiungendolo a quello vinto in Moto3 nel 2017. Il pilota maiorchino però non ha battuto alcun record, si è limitato ad essere il più costante e a dare un colpo al campionato al momento giusto.

A 23 anni e 75 giorni è ben lungi dall'essere il più giovane campione della classe regina, un record ancora detenuto da Marc Marquez (20 anni e 266 giorni). Mir è sesto in questa classifica, giusto davanti a Jorge Lorenzo, che aveva 23 anni e 159 giorni quando ha vinto il suo primo titolo MotoGP.

Mir ha conquistato appena una settimana la sua prima vittoria in MotoGP, a Valencia, e se non concederà il bis a Portimao sarà il campione con il miglior numero di successi. Per ora, i campioni con meno vittorie sono Leslie Graham (1949), Umberto Masetti (1950 e 1952) e Nicky Hayden (2006), tutti a quota due, nella migliore delle ipotesi potrebbe solo eguagliarli.

In termini di punti, Mir potrebbe arrivare a 196 vincendo a Portimao. Questo lo renderebbe il campione con la media punti per gara più bassa con il sistema attuale, inferiore anche ai 14,82 con cui è stato campione Nicky Hayden nel 2006.

A Mir sono bastate due stagioni per vincere il titolo MotoGP, eguagliando Valentino Rossi (2001) e battendo Lorenzo di un anno. Tuttavia, Umberto Masetti (1950), Kenny Roberts (1978) e Marc Marquez (2013) lo hanno fatto tutti al loro debutto.

C'è però una statistica in cui Mir ha superato Marquez ed è quella relativa al numero di anni nel Mondiale per diventare campione nella classe regina. Il pilota della Suzuki è arrivato relativamente a tardi, all'età di 18 anni, nel 2016, e ha impiegato solo cinque stagioni per cogliere il suo primo titolo della MotoGP, una in meno rispetto al #93.

In ogni caso, nemmeno questo è un record. Quando Roberts vinse il titolo della 500cc, nel 1978, era il suo primo anno a tempo pieno nel Mondiale. Un altro talento precoce come Freddie Spencer lo fece nel 1983, alla sua terza stagione.
