Juan Pablo Montoya conquista la pole a Long Beach
Il pilota colombiano ha regalato la pole al team Penske regolando Felipe Nasr per meno di due decimi. Intensa la lotta per il miglior crono in GTLM con Joey Hand bravo a mettere la sua Ford davanti alla Porsche di Vanthoor.

Juan Pablo Montoya ha centrato la pole a Long Beach grazie ad un giro realizzato in 1’12’’992 riuscendo così ad avere la meglio sulla Cadillac #31 dell’Action Express di Felipe Nasr per appena 187 millesimi.
Terzo tempo per la Mazda del team Joest affidata a Harry Tincknell bravo a precedere la seconda Acura del team Penske condotta da Castroneves.
La seconda Cadillac dell’Action Expressa guidata da Joao Barbosa ha centrato il quinto tempo precedendo la vettura gemella del Taylor Racing con al volante van der Zande, mentre Tristan Nunez ha ottenuto il settimo riferimento davanti alla Nissan di Scott Sharp.
Decisamente intensa la lotta per la pole in GT Le Mans dove la sfida tra Ford e Porsche è stata serrata. Joey Hand si è imposto al volante della Ford #66 precedendo la Porsche 911 RSR di Vanthoor per soli 144 millesimi.
Patrick Pilet è stato costretto al terzo tempo con un ritardo di soli 25 millesimi dalla Porsche, mentre il quarto ed il quinto riferimento di categoria sono stati ottenuti dalle Corvette di Magnussen ed Oliver Gavin.
La seconda Ford GT di Richard Westbrook ha centrato soltanto il sesto tempo precedendo le due BMW M8 del Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing affidate a Connor de Phillippi e Jesse Krohn che hanno pagato un gap di oltre un secondo dal tempo di Hand.
