Will Stevens put on another stunning performance on the Motorland Aragon circuit. He was on pole for the first race in which he was unlucky. This morning he again set the fastest time in qualifying in front of Carlos Sainz Jr.
Like the previous day, the drivers were divided into two groups for the qualifying session. This time, those in Group B were first out on the track.
Javier Tarancon (Tech 1 Racing) was the first to lay down a marker in front of Johannes Moor (MP Motorsport) and Grégoire Demoustier (Tech 1 Racing). Carlos Sainz Jr then got round in 1m 55.667s, which was to prove the quickest time in the group, despite the efforts of Tarancon and Felix Serralles (Fortec Motorsport). Behind the pace-setting Red Bull Junior Team driver, Timmy Hansen (Interwetten.com Racing) and Serralles filled second and third places.
The battle in Group A was more intense. Miki Weckstrom (Tech 1 Racing) topped the time sheets briefly in a hierarchy that changed rapidly. Will Stevens banged in a lap in 1m 55.652s beating Sainz’s time in Group B. Robin Frijns took third in front of Weckstrom. On his final flyer, Stevens got round in 1m 55.300s to bag his second pole of the weekend.
