F2, Red Bull Ring, Sprint Race: Drugovich firma la prima

Il brasiliano della MP Motorsport è stato abile nel non commettere errori in occasione delle varie ripartenze ed ha gestito in testa la gara dal primo all'ultimo giro. Sul podio salgono Deletraz e Ticktum.

E’ stato un weekend certamente da ricordare quello trascorso da Felipe Drugovich al Red Bull Ring. Il pilota del team MP Motorsport, infatti, è stata la sorpresa del primo round inaugurale della stagione e dopo aver ben impressionato nelle libere, con il sesto crono, aver ottenuto il secondo tempo in qualifica e l’ottavo posto nella Feature Race è riuscito ad imporsi in maniera netta in una Sprint Race fortemente condizionata dai numerosi ingressi della Safety Car.

Il brasiliano ha sfruttato al meglio la pole ereditata grazie alla griglia invertita ed ha subito creato un margine di sicurezza su Louis Deletraz, mentre alle spalle dei primi due ha stupito tutti Marcus Armstrong protagonista di un avvio clamoroso che l’ha portato immediatamente dalla settima alla terza posizione.

Le operazioni in pista, però, sono state immediatamente congelate al secondo giro a causa delle vetture di Alesi prima e Gelael poi ferme in pista, e quando si è tornati in regime di bandiera verde la safety car è stata costretta a scendere nuovamente sul tracciato per consentire ai commissari di rimuovere la monoposto dello sfortunatissimo Luca Ghiotto colpito nel retrotreno da Jehan Daruvala.

Alla ripartenza Drugovich è stato furbo nel trovare subito lo spunto decisivo mantenendo Deletraz a distanza, ma al giro 15 la safety car è dovuta nuovamente intervenire a causa della monoposto di Armstrong ferma sul tracciato.

Al sedicesimo passaggio la bandiera verde è tornata finalmente a sventolare ed anche in questa occasione Drugovich ha gestito la ripartenza come un veterano spingendo subito forte sul gas.

Il brasiliano, complici anche le numerose neutralizzazioni, non ha risparmiato le proprie Pirelli ed ha chiesto il massimo alla propria vettura facendo segnare anche il giro più veloce sino a tagliare il traguardo con un margine di quasi due secondi e mezzo su un Louis Deletraz anonimo.

Lo svizzero del Charouz Racing System avrebbe potuto sfruttare tutta la sua esperienza nella categoria per avere la meglio su un debuttante come Drugovich, ma non è mai stato in grado di tenere il passo del brasiliano e nel finale di gara ha anche dovuto controllare negli specchietti un Ticktum sempre più minaccioso.

Ai piedi del podio ha chiuso un coriaceo Robert Shwartzman. Il russo, così come il suo compagno in FDA Armstrong, ha dato il meglio in partenza riuscendo a rimontare dalla sesta alla quinta piazza e grazie all’inatteso ritiro del pilota della ART Grand Prix ha ereditato una quarta posizione che gli consente di portare a casa punti pesanti in ottica campionato.

Alle spalle di Shwartzman ha chiuso Christian Lundgaard, ma per il pilota del vivaio Renault la Sprint Race è stata piuttosto complicata e nei giri conclusivi, complice una gestione gomme errata, ha visto il russo scappare via.

Decisamente intensa la lotta per il sesto posto che ha visto protagonisti Matsushita e Mick Schumacher in un remake a parti inverse della Sprint Race in Ungheria della passata stagione.

Il giapponese non aveva assolutamente il ritmo dei primi ma è stato bravo nello sfruttare tutta la sua esperienza per chiudere ogni varco al tedesco della Prema. Mick ha cercato in ogni modo di sfruttare il DRS per avere la meglio, ma ha dovuto alzare bandiera bianca nel corso dell’ultimo giro ed ha preferito portare a casa i pochi punti della settima piazza.

I giri conclusivi hanno anche visto un intenso duello tra Jack Aitken ed il vincitore della Feature Race di ieri, Callum Ilott.

L’inglese è sembrato la controfigura del pilota deciso ammirato al sabato e nelle battute conclusive della seconda corsa del weekend si è dovuto arrendere ad un Aitken che ha giocato di esperienza per evitare il sorpasso.

Al termine del primo round stagionale la classifica piloti della Formula 2 vede Ilott in testa con 27 punti seguito a 4 lunghezze di ritardo da Shwartzman, mentre a sorpresa il terzo posto è occupato da Felipe Drugovich che grazie al risultato odierno ed all’ottavo posto del sabato ha conquistato 21 punti.
