Horner mette le mani avanti: "Mai detto quante vittorie dobbiamo fare nel 2019!"

Il team principal della Red Bull vuole allentare la pressione sulla squadra di Milton Keynes, che in questa stagione sta affrontando il primo anno assieme a Honda, nuovo fornitore di power unit.

Da qualche tempo Helmut Marko, consigliere del team Red Bull Racing, ha predetto almeno una vittoria stagionale delle monoposto di Milton Keynes, che da questa stagione sono spinte da power unit Honda dopo tanti anni di sodalizio con Renault.

Christian Horner, team principal della squadra anglo-austriaca, ha vestito i panni del vigile del fuoco per smorzare le fiamme divampate da questo eccesso di fiducia da parte di Marko. La Mercedes è molto forte anche in questa stagione. La Ferrari, anche se solo a sprazzi, ha mostrato di essere in possesso di una monoposto capace di vincere.

Per ora, dunque, le RB15 sembrano avere avversarie molto forti che potrebbero impedir loro di vincere gare nel 2019. Ecco dunque spiegato l'intervento di Horner, che ha voluto sottolineare come sia attualmente impossibile pronosticare vittorie per la sua squadra. 

"A Marko piace ovviamente avere una vista ottimista del futuro. Abbiamo iniziato il Mondiale da appena 3 gare. Dal punto di vista del team non ci siamo mai posti obiettivi in termini di numero di vittorie. Il nostro obiettivo è solo quello di diminuire il gap dai team che ci precedono".

Secondo Horner l'eventuale bontà della stagione 2019 può solo essere giudicata al termine, perché è inutili delineare traguardi specifici per giudicare il lavoro che il team sta facendo.

"Penso che farlo sia una perdita di tempo", ha dichiarato Horner. Il mio punto di vista è sempre stato quello di vedere quale sia l'auto più veloce e quale sia il modo più veloce per raggiungerla. Questo sistema varia di gara in gara".

"In Bahrain è stata la Ferrari, mentre la Mercedes lo è stata in Australia e in Cina. Ovviamente tutti stanno facendo il possibile per colmare le lacune che abbiamo da questi due team".

Dove Horner non lesina complimenti è quando parla del pupillo del team, Max Verstappen. L'olandese si trova in terza posizione nel Mondiale Piloti dopo le prime tre gare disputate, addirittura davanti a entrambi i piloti della Ferrari. In questo avvio di Mondiale, Max ha mostrato segnali importanti di maturità, portando a casa punti pesanti anche in fine settimana non certamente favorevoli a lui e alla sua monoposto.

"Penso che Max sia maturato molto. Sino a ora ha fatto 3 gran premi di alto livello ed è stato sfortunato a non essere sul podio in Bahrain. In Cina ha avuto l'opportunità di lottare con Vettel ma ha comunque scelto di chiudere quarto. Ha fatto una buona scelta, una scelta matura. In questa fase della stagione dobbiamo accumulare punti".

"Al momento non abbiamo ancora un grande distacco dai piloti che ci precedono nel Mondiale e, attualmente, siamo davanti a entrambi i piloti della Ferrari. La strada da percorrere è ancora lunga, quindi è importante non perdere troppo terreno dai migliori in questa fase dell'anno".
